Reading — John 3:16–17, Confession — Gracious God, You have adopted us and called us your children. Even when we are far from you, you pull us near and remind us we are loved. Yet, we don’t do the same for others. We confess that we fail to love like you love in our neighborhoods, schools, and workplaces. We let our perceptions of the world cloud your call to reach outward in your name. Forgive us and help us to recognize your work wherever we go, joining you in reaching the world with the good news of your grace. Amen.

Questions:
  • Describe a time when your initial negative perceptions about someone were incorrect. What changed your mind?
  • Read Luke 4:14-30. Why do you think the crowd spoke well of Jesus at first and rejected him after he challenged their perceptions? Describe how has Jesus challenged your own perceptions.
  • Read John 3:16-17 and 1 Peter 3:8-9. What has God’s love and patience looked like in your life?
  • What are some ways God might use you in the same way for others in your sphere of influence?
