Did you know that darkness isn’t really a thing. We experience it as something, but in real scientific terms we measure light, not darkness. Darkness is the absence of light. When God said “Let there be light,” the darkness did not have a chance. What we perceive as darkness winning over light is impossible. Have you ever seen the dark put out candle, or turn off a light switch? Wherever light is, darkness cannot be.
God’s first act of creation was to bring light. Darkness appeared to be all around, but God’s Word pierced it. Psalm 104:2 describes God wrapping Himself in light as a garment, stretching out the heavens like a tent. Light isn’t just something God made—it is who He is.
Even in chaos or uncertainty, God’s light hovers over the waters of our lives. It brings comfort, clarity, and beauty where there was once formlessness. Creation reminds us that light comes first, before everything else. And this Light became flesh and blood in Jesus, dwelling among us, much like God living among the people in a tent or tabernacle in the Hebrew Scriptures.
Reflection: Look around you. Where is God’s Light already at work in unexpected ways? Notice these sparks and thank Him for them.
Prayer: Lord, thank You for bringing your Light into the world and into my life. Help me to notice it today and follow you faithfully. Amen.
