Have you ever struggled to hear or discern God’s direction for you? I certainly have. Usually God’s voice is most clear in retrospect, as I look back and see how he navigated me through a difficult time or a challenging decision in my life.
I remember the process of discerning the call to serve as Lead Pastor at Shepherd of the Valley. A wise friend told me that “God would be as clear as he was when we heard him last and planted Radiant Church. He may use different means, but he will guide you in a way you can understand.” When planting Radiant, God’s direction was so clear… supernaturally so. God spoke to Michelle and me in dreams on the same night. But this time it was different. There wasn’t one shining moment. There were many “coincidences” that seemed to line up, such as words in passing that matched what we had been praying about. God guided us using different means, but it was just as clear and we saw his signature all over the place.
God guided his people in the wilderness with light. This came as a burning bush for Moses, a pillar of cloud by day and fire by night for the whole people. He led His people through uncertainty with His constant presence. In the same way, Jesus guides us today. We may not see the whole path, but His Light shows us the next step. Sometimes life feels like wandering in a wilderness, full of uncertainty and fear. But God’s Light is not just a glow at the end of the tunnel—it walks with us every step. He goes ahead, illuminating the path, using every moment in our lives for good, and giving light in the dark moments.
Reflection: Where do you need God’s guiding Light today? Invite Him to shine in that situation and trust Him to lead you.
Prayer: Lord, guide my steps and shine Your Light on the path before me. Thank You for speaking to me in the ways I need to hear. Amen.
