You Will Have Trouble

March 9, 2025

Series: Valleys

Service: Sunday

Warm up

Describe a time when you got lost on a journey.

The Hike

  • Read Psalm 23
    • Psalm 23:4 describes walking through the “valley of the shadow of death” (ṣalmāwet – deep darkness). What are some valleys you’ve walked through in life? How did they shape you?
    • Psalm 23 portrays God as a shepherd who provides, guides, and protects. What specific ways has God provided for you in your hardest moments? How can we remind ourselves of His provision when we feel lost?
  • Read Romans 8:18-39
    • Romans 8:28 is often quoted to say that “everything happens for a reason,” but in context, Paul is showing that God is working in all things to make us more like Jesus. How does this change the way we understand hardships in our lives? Can you think of a time when God used a difficult situation for your growth?”
    • Romans 8:26-27 says the Spirit intercedes for us with groanings too deep for words. Have you ever had a moment where you didn’t know how to pray? How does it feel to know the Spirit prays for you?
    • Romans 8:31-39 declares that nothing can separate us from God’s love. How does this promise shape the way we walk through our valleys?

Back Home

Thinking about John 16:33, where Jesus says, “In this world you will have trouble. But take heart! I have overcome the world,” what’s one way you can trust Jesus more in your current valley (or prepare for the next one)?
