- Read Matthew 4:5–7. In what ways could Satan’s temptation of Jesus to “be popular” and prove his identity be expressed in our own perspective on politics?
- Read Philippians 2:1–8. How can having the mind of Christ help you negotiate the political differences between you and your friends and family?
- Read Romans 12:1–2 & Matthew 5:33. How might these verses help us guard against the temptation to be politically popular and to discern the many voices vying for our attention?
- For Kids: Read Matthew 4:5–7 Why do you think Satan tried to convince Jesus to jump from the building? Why didn’t Jesus listen to him? Who are the people who influence you the most? Why do you listen to them?
Confession: Gracious God, you know that worldly voices are calling for our attention. We confess that the temptation to be popular and to prove ourselves distracts us from seeking your Kingdom first. Forgive us and renew our minds to reflect your way of thinking. Turn our hearts toward the well-being of others around us. Amen
